Sadly missing from the menu was an iceberg lettuce wedge with blue cheese dressing, bacon bits and fresh tomatoes.
My life is about food.
Growing up in my house it was all about the smells wafting from the kitchen. Rich sauces, tangy meats, loamy drifts of what was baking. Sometimes the recipes were basic: home made pasta, savory soups, loaves of fresh bread and other times the dishes were more complex: crabs, veal loin, and roasted porchetta. But we didn’t just eat the food, we took it in with our eyes, our noses, on our well worn kitchen table, or in our holiday filled dining room.
I work in finance during the day, but this heritage remains. It defines in the routines and rhythms of my life. From exploring popular and out of the way eateries, to shopping farmers markets, to spending time with friends in the presence of excellent food and wine.
It’s the level of devotion I hold for these things that sparked my interest in last meals. For knowing all of life’s pleasures - in food, in passion, and in our relationships with others - what would any of want to help savor life’s last moments, and say goodbye to the splendor that it offers?
And so I hope you will stay tuned to Last Meal Journey to learn about last meals, to enjoy the recipes and share your passion for food with me.
Wednesdays: If you die this week... - Will feature a recipe or beverage that if you go this week you need to try before you meet your maker.
Fridays: Last Call! - Your walking out to the firing squad and you get one last drink… We’ll give you some recommendations on what the bartender should serve you up to take the edge off.
Monthly: Chef's Last Meals - Will feature a chef, their specialty and what they would desire for their last meal.
Monthly: The ‘LM’ Panel - Our Panel members across this great United States will submit restaurant reviews and recommend last meals if you had to choose off of that restaurant’s menu. Just like any good resturant critic, the Panel has chosen the Omega Sign Ω as their official rating symbol - becuase we are the last review you should read before trying a resturant.
